POLICE are re-appealing for information ahead of the second anniversary of a murder in Crayford.

Bill Marney was shot on June 23, 2005, outside his home in Mill Place, just before 10pm.

He was outside his home when a car approached and someone from inside the car fired several shots, hitting the 39-year-old and some parked cars.

The car then drove off.

The incident is being investigated by The Met's Specialist Crime Directorate and is being led by Detective Inspector Bob Webb.

DI Webb said: "I would like people to cast their mind back to that evening.

"Although it was two years ago, a shooting is so rare that I expect people in the area to remember where they were and what they were doing.

"It was a warm summer evening and many people would still have been outdoors, in their garden or at least with living room windows open.

"It may be that you saw or heard something suspicious that night and have not come forward because you think it's not important.

"We believe the vehicle used by his assailants was a dark coloured hatchback, either a Rover 45 or a Peugeot.

"We believe the registration number included N145 or M145, or N154 or M154.

"The occupants of the car were two black men.

"Did you see a car of this description in the area? Do you think you know a car fitting this description?

"Have you heard any information that might help the enquiry?

"Please get in touch, you may hold a vital clue. All calls will be treated in strictest confidence."

Anyone with information should contact the Specialist Crime Directorate on 020 8721 4805 Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
