A 43-year-old Lewisham man has been jailed for two violent assaults in which he kicked and headbutted other passengers on Southeastern trains.

Dean Jennings of Nesbitt Close attacked his first victim on a Southeastern service between Charing Cross and Waterloo East on February 12 this year.

The victim, a 24-year-old man, was travelling with his girlfriend when Jennings used threatening language before he kicked and headbutted him.

He was arrested at Waterloo East station and placed on police bail.

In March this year Jennings was travelling on a Southeastern service through Eltham station when he assaulted another man.

He verbally abused the man, 24, before he kicked at him, spat at him and hit him with a bottle of vodka.

PC Steve Ajayi, part of the investigation team, said: “Both of these violent assaults were totally unprovoked and I welcome the sentencing that Jennings has received. This aggressive and hostile individual will spend the next 21 months behind bars for his actions.

“Thankfully, both victims did not sustain serious injuries and I would like to commend the other passengers on these services who came to the assistance of the victims.

“Everyone has the right to travel without the fear of crime and this sentence shows that we will simply never stand for violent behaviour.”

Jennings pleaded guilty and was sentenced at Blackfriars Crown Court on Thursday (October 6) to nine months imprisonment for one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH) and 12 months imprisonment for the second count of assault occasioning ABH. These are to be served consecutively.

Additionally, Jennings had a three year Criminal Behaviour Order imposed upon him restricting him from travelling on a train whilst possessing or under the influence of drink or drugs.
