A man was rescued by firefighters from a blaze at a block of flats in Greenwich in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Part of a flat on the ground floor of the building was damaged by the fire in Annandale Road.

The man was rescued from a ground floor flat by crews wearing breathing apparatus and was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service.

The Brigade was called at 12.14am and the fire was under control at 12.53am.

Two fire engines from East Greenwich Fire Station attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
