London's Air Ambulance have treated 917 patients across London in the first six months of this year.

On average the charity complete 46 anesthetics, eight open heart surgeries and eight blood transfusions each month.

The statistics have been released as part of National Air Ambulance week which aims to raise awareness of the work the charity does to help save lives across the capital.

In the News Shopper area London's Air Ambulance (LAA) treated the most patients in Greenwich.

37 patients were treated in the borough in the first six months of 2016.

The second highest number of patients were treated in Lewisham borough where 34 patients required treatment from LAA and 20 patients used the service in Bexley borough.

The fewest number of patients required LAA in Bromley where 17 patients were treated between January and June this year.

MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, David Evenett said  “I am a big supporter of London’s Air Ambulance and the tremendous work they do.

“This is an invaluable service which saves lives and makes a real difference."

Across London, a total of 917 patients were treated, mostly for car crashes which made up 32 per cent of call outs.

Stabbings and shootings (28 per cent) were the second most frequent reason for LAA to be called out and 24 per cent of people required the service for falls.

16 per cent needed treatment for other incidents including accidents on the railway, hangings and drownings.
