A 19-year-old cyclist has been charged after a Lewisham mother-of-two died after being hit by a bike.

Kim Briggs, 44, was killed while she was on her lunch break in Old Street on February 19.

Paramedics battled to save her life at the scene and she was taken to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel by air ambulance.

Charlie Alliston, of Trothy Road, Bermondsey, appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court today (September 14) after being charged yesterday with causing bodily harm by wilful misconduct.

Mrs Briggs’ husband, 45, told the Evening Standard: “Kim was a wonderful and much loved woman who lived her life to the full and brought warmth to everyone she met.

“She bought a sense of fun to every occasion and we are devastated by this loss.

“We were very lucky to have had such a wonderful woman in our lives and her loss is greatly felt.

“She will be so dearly missed by all her many friends and family.”

Mrs Briggs had worked at ancestry website Find my Past for nine months.

Speaking to the Standard, Darren Makarem, chief operating officer at the company, added: “She was so full of ideas and enthusiasm and was wonderful to be around.

“Just that morning we had been talking about giving her a better contract, it’s so tragic. She went out for lunch and never came back.

“We could see the accident scene from the office but had no idea Kim was involved. She will be greatly missed. She was so proud of her family and her children and was such a positive person.”

Alliston will next appear at the Old Bailey on Wednesday, October 12.
