There have been reports of paintballs being blasted at passing vehicles on the A2 near Bean.
Police were called at about 9.30am this morning when the shots were allegedly fired at a van from another car travelling on the coastbound carriageway.
In a second reported incident, a woman, who claimed to be driving at 65mph, said on Facebook the paintballs missed her windscreen by inches.
She believes the shots were coming from a blue Vauxhall Astra.
