A second man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 49-year-old was found dead in a house in Eltham.

The 28-year-old was the second person to hand himself in to a south London police station.

He was arrested this morning on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Yesterday a 26-year-old man handed himself into police.

He too remains in custody in south London after being arrested on suspicion of murder.

Shortly before 1pm on Bank Holiday Monday, Met Police officers were called by the London Ambulance Service to Churchbury Road.

A 49-year-old man was declared dead at the scene.

The death is being treated as suspicious and it is believed the victim may have been involved in a disturbance in Eltham Hill at about 9.50pm on Sunday. 

Yesterday there were reports that the area near the White Hart pub in Eltham Hill was cordoned off by police.

Next of kin have been informed but formal identification is yet to take place.

A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing. 

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command have been informed.
