A Dartford woman died in hospital after she was misdiagnosed and left waiting a day to receive the correct medical treatment.

Mum-of-three Sian Hollands, 25, of Priory Hill, was admitted into Darent Valley Hospital on November 14 but died the next day from a pulmonary embolism.

The Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust, which runs the hospital, accepts it missed seven opportunities to correctly diagnose Sian.

Ebony Hollands, 22, of Mangold Way, Erith, isn’t satisfied with the way she and her family has been treated by hospital management following her sister's death.

Speaking to News Shopper she said: “The hospital do not seem to be helping.

“They should have noticed, they took no test and we now feel the death certificate needs to be changed.

“What I wanted from the hospital was a sincere apology but they just laughed at us like it wasn’t happening.

“I don’t want to do this, I don’t want to make it a public thing but if it’s going to get my family justice I am going to do it.

“I just want my sister’s story to be told so no one else has to suffer.

“Her kids ask, ‘Where’s mum? When’s mum coming home?’”

The family formally requested to speak with the trust’s CEO Susan Acott on May 20, but only met her two weeks ago.

Sian’s mother Nicola Smith, 46, explained to the paper that Ms Acott did not satisfactorily deal with the questions surrounding her daughter’s death.

“I got the impression they think that because they put their hand up we should go away,” she said, “But I can’t, I have Sian’s three little children who will need answers as to why their mum is not here for them.”

A spokeswoman for the trust said: “The Trust is very sorry for the family’s loss and have carried out a detailed investigation.

“However, the case has yet to be heard by the coroner, so the cause of death and any relationship to earlier events have not been confirmed.

“The Trust does accept that there were missed opportunities to diagnose Sian correctly and changes have already been implemented following the investigation.“

Sian Hollands’ inquest date has been scheduled for September 15 at Gravesend Old Town Hall.
