A Dartford flat was raided after neighbours complained it was being used as a knocking shop.

Police and council enforcement officers entered the suspected brothel in East Hill at 2.20pm on August 17 in response to the complaints.

A spokeswoman for Dartford Council said: “Kent Police and Dartford Borough Council enforcement officers attended an address in Dartford following complaints that the premises was being used as a brothel.

“After entry to the premises Kent Police are now dealing with this matter."

A police spokesman added: “As part of the investigation the property was made secure.

“Officers are continuing to make enquiries surrounding this investigation.”

Kent Police officers confirmed that the property was being used “anti-socially” but no arrests have been made.

It is illegal to own, run or let a brothel under the Sexual Offences Act 1956 and it is illegal to "cause or incite prostitution for gain" under the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

However prostitution itself - the exchange of sexual services for money - is in fact legal although activities like kerb crawling are illegal.
