The Bank Holiday weekend Isthmian League south programme has thrown up a cracking game on Saturday as Cray face the first of four consecutive Kent derbies as Faversham Town are the visitors to Hayes Lane.  Kick off is 3pm.   This will also be a dress rehearsal for the following Saturday when Cray travel to Faversham in the FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round.  On Bank Holiday Monday, Cray travel to the Medway to face Chatham Town, with a 3pm kick off.

Tony Russell’s side have started the season with two points from the two league games played.   The Wands would perhaps have been disappointed to only draw the opening match with Sittingbourne but were losing the game 1-3 with a couple of minutes to go.  They were much more happier to take a point from the long trip to Guernsey the following Wednesday.

The Wands made it through the Preliminary Round stage of the FA Cup with a solid and professional display to beat Badshot Lea last Saturday with Grant Basey’s wonder goal from his own half an early season highlight.  If selected we could see the home debut of loanee signing, Jonte Smith who played very well at Guernsey on his debut.  We have seen some very good displays from some fine young players early in the season with Taylor McDonagh, Brandon Scott, Max Williams, Timi Osidobu and Anthony Adesite looking well in advance of their years.

Faversham though will be a tough test.  Ray Turner’s side have won their first two games and came from behind to beat Epsom and Ewell in the FA Cup to set up the home clash with the Wands.  The Lilywhites have become perennial challengers at the top of the South Division over the last six years and have been one of the real success stories of Kent football,  They have emerged through some dark times in the early part of the 00’s to re-establish themselves as an ambitious club.

Admission prices on Saturday are:  Adults: £10, Concessions and U16s £4.00, Students on presentation of card, £4.00.  It should be a cracking game at the Lane between two good sides who aim to be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.
