The mother of a young Dartford man fatally stabbed in Ayia Napa has said how his death has left the family "numb".

Estate agent George Low, 22, died from a stab wound to the neck in the early hours of Sunday morning, while his friend, Ben Barker, was wounded during the pre-dawn knife attack.

Mr Low's mother, Helen, 47, said the pair were due to fly back home yesterday. Mr Low had spent two previous seasons in the party town as a club rep and manager, and was last there in June celebrating his birthday.

Mrs Low said her son's death has devastated her, her husband, postman Martyn, 55, and their children Wesley, Laura, Oliver and Millie.

Mrs Low, a community carer, said: "We're just heartbroken. We cannot believe something like this could happen to our son. We're just struggling.

"He loved it over there and everybody loved him. There was something special about George. He would speak to people and they would instantly love him.

"Nobody could say anything bad about George."

She added: "We're just so numb. He was a very popular boy. He wasn't an aggressive person. He was fun-loving, kind and lived life to the full.

"Friends said he was like an Adonis. They all think the world of him. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Relatives are now planning to fly out to Ayia Napa to bring him back to the UK.

The two Brits, both 22, were attacked while walking in Grigori Afxentiou Street, near Ayia Napa Square.

Mr Barker suffered four stab wounds to his back which are not life-threatening.

The Bell, a popular bar in the centre of Ayia Napa where Mr Low used to work, closed on Sunday night out of respect for him, and they have also paid tribute to the victim.

A spokesman told News Shopper: "We are deeply shocked by what happened to George and his friend in the early hours of Sunday morning.

"We know it's often said but never truer in this case that George truly was one of the good guys and was just enjoying his last night of holiday.

"He was always happy, always joking and someone we were proud to call our friend.

"He will be truly missed - our heartfelt condolences go to his family."

There is no suspicion that the attack was terror-related, but police are looking for two suspects.

The first is "short, chubby" and wore jeans and a white shirt while the second is also said to be short, with short black hair and was naked from the waist up.

A spokesman for the Foreign Office said: "We are providing support to the family of a British national man who sadly died in Cyprus on August 14 and will remain in contact with the local authorities who are investigating."

Since Mr Low’s death, a fundraising page has been set up to help pay for his funeral, and has surpassed £10,000.
