A fundraiser set up to support the family of the man who died in the Greenwich Peninsula nightclub blaze has raised over £7,000.

Nightclub worker Tomas Ceidukas suffered severe burns when a huge fire broke out at Studio 338 in Boord Street on Monday.

The 28-year-old was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, but died the next evening.

Tributes poured in from friends and colleagues, who described Mr Ceidukas as the “happiest guy”.

An online fundraiser to pay for his funeral and to support Mr Ceidukas’ family in Lithuania topped its £5,000 target in a matter of hours.

Dan Perrin, who set up the donation page, wrote: “As you will all know by now, we lost our beloved Tomas to the fire on Monday.

“He was the bravest, happiest soul one could hope to meet.

“He was always ready to help anyone in need and now we hope we can do this last thing for him by giving him a wonderful send off and supporting his family in this awful time.”

The blaze started at around 11am on Monday, sending plumes of smoke billowing across London’s skyline and sparking over 50 calls to the fire brigade.

Some 100 firefighters were sent to tackle the flames, which raged until the early evening.

Group Manager Mark Hazelton who was at the scene said: "Our thoughts are with the friends and family of the man who sadly lost his life following this incident.

"This was a large, rapidly developing fire which presented serious challenges for our crews involving cylinders and unseen fire spread.

"The nightclub was also declared unsafe for our firefighters to enter so they had to fight the fire from outside the building.”
