A motorcyclist has been rushed to hospital after a serious crash involving a bus in New Cross.

New Cross Road was closed both ways and there were long delays in the area for about four hours after the incident outside New Cross bus garage just before 6.30am (August 4).

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said the crash involved a silver Yamaha.

He added: "We were called at 6.23am to reports of a road traffic collision on New Cross Road between a bus and a motorbike.

"Local road closures are in place.

"London Ambulance service attended and took the motorcyclist to a south London hospital.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries continue."

The condition of the motorcyclist is currently unknown.

All lanes have now reopened.

There was congestion to Kender Street in New Cross Gate and on the A2 past Deptford Bridge to Shooters Hill Road in Blackheath and on Lewisham Way to Loampit Hill.

The northern entrance to the bus garage was closed, but buses could still get in and out via Pepys Road.

Buses 21, 53, 136, 171, 172, 177, 321, 436 and 453 were all on diversion.
