An elderly man who was reportedly smoking outside a Wetherspoons pub when he died suddenly on Saturday has been named locally.

Named locally as Peter Hill, friends say the gentleman was a well-known karaoke enthusiast who used to frequent various pubs in Peckham and the surrounding areas.

Karaoke DJ Patrick O'Keefe told News Shopper: "He was a very popular and likeable old boy and an avid karaoke fan and could be found belting out Frank Sinatra at Karaoke nights."

Mr Hill was a regular at The Greyhound pub in Peckham.

It is thought that Mr Hill had gotten off a bus on Lewisham High Street and was walking past the Watch House pub when he collapsed on the street.

Police cars and ambulances pulled up outside the Watch House pub on Lewisham High Street on Saturday afternoon to treat the pensioner.

Teri Warke tweeted: "Really sad news hearing about the death of an 80-year-old man who died of a heart attack whilst having a fag at Wetherspoons Lewisham."
