Three away pre-season friendlies in five days for Welling United all ended in confidence boosting victories.

Following on from wins at VCD Athletic on Tuesday and Thamesmead Town two days later, Welling visited Hastings Town on Saturday.

Whilst a 3-1 scoreline might suggest a regulation result, that was far from being the case.

Three goals in the final seven minutes ensured Welling came home with the spoils at the end of a tricky afternoon.

Early on, the hosts tried to impose themselves and Mason Bush made an excellent clearance from a corner.

Jamie Slabber then met a Sam Hatton corner at the near post but his header flew just wide of the near post.

Chris Lewington had to be watchful before turning over an effort from Harry Stannard.

Harry Crawford came close to breaking the deadlock with a shot that Hastings goalkeeper Lenny Pidgeley touched onto the post and behind.

Reece Butler then crossed for Stannard to try his luck again but Lewington was again equal to it with another tip over.

Lewington made a further save before the break, albeit a comfortable one from a long range Steve Watt header.

Hatton came close when firing just beyond the far post after good work by Mason Bush before Lewington made another save, this time from a Jack Harris header.

At the start of the second period, Welling tried to impose themselves and twice went close before former Wing, Matt Bodkin, curled wide for Hastings.

Finally, the deadlock was broken when a Hastings' long throw beat the entire defence and rebounded into the net off Frannie Collin.

Bodkin then burst through but fired wide of the far post.

Bobby Devyne took full advantage of Welling's let off by equalising with seven minutes remaining when his long range effort that deceived the Hastings substitute goalkeeper.

Minutes later, Archie Johnson broke clear and clipped home.

Johnson was then tripped just inside the penalty area and Sam Hatton fired home from the spot.

Mark Goldberg's Wings now have a week to prepare for next Saturday's friendly at home to Bromley.
