A Catford man who sped the wrong way down a motorway at 110 miles per hour to escape the police has been jailed.

Junior Lowe, 34, was sentenced to 16 months in prison at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday for dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance, after pleading guilty to all charges.

At about 3.30am on February 23 this year Lowe drove two miles down the M26 in Kent the wrong way, after being chased by the Metropolitan Police who suspected him of driving while disqualified.

The Met stopped their pursuit and Lowe was later arrested by Kent Police on the A20.

Junior Lowe.

Police Constable Guy Ditcher, from the serious collision investigation unit, said: "The manner of Junior Lowe’s driving presented a very clear and dangerous threat to the public.

"It was 3.30am, it was dark, and drivers would have suddenly and unexpectedly come across someone driving at speed straight towards them; it is very fortunate that no one was injured in this incident.

"I’m pleased that the courts have recognised the seriousness of this offence with a custodial sentence."
