Schools across south-east London and north Kent face closure or disruption today (July 5) as members of the National Union of Teachers (NUT) stage a one-day strike over funding.

Members are set to walk out over school funding and contracts, arguing that cuts could affect class sizes, subject choices and staffing.

Almost 25 per cent of NUT members voted in the strike ballot - of those who voted, 91.7 per cent supported strike action.

NUT acting leader Kevin Courtney said school budgets were not keeping pace with rising costs.
