The notorious New Cross ‘sex cinema’ which screened saucy films while punters reportedly pleasured themselves has been shut down following an 18-month battle with Lewisham Council.

Club 487 was opened up in an old printing shop on New Cross Road in January 2015 and was said to be a hotbed of orgies and group romps.

As neighbours caught wind of the goings-on at the venue, which was located opposite a church and the Addey and Stanhope School, the council tried repeatedly to come down hard on the erotic establishment.

Lewisham Council granted a licence to the club in June 2015 on the condition that only films with a certificate from 18 down to U were shown.

It was also ordered to maintain CCTV in every room inside the premises except the toilets.

In October 2015, the council ordered the porn palace to shut its doors after the council found it was violating the licence agreement by using the basement as a sex cinema and screening R18 films.

Owner Peter Jones managed to keep showing filthy flicks by lodging an appeal which allowed the venue to remain open.

But on June 17, police raided the property and a message on the cinema’s website confirmed the closure.

A council spokesman said: “The premises was being illegally sublet which has resulted in the legal tenant being evicted due to planning infringements.

“This follows the premises licence having been revoked in October last year due to unlicensed films being shown at the property.

“We have supported the property’s owner in taking appropriate action to address the illegal use of the premises.”
