The driver of the car, a 27-year-old man from Northfleet, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing death while uninsured.

He has been bailed until Monday 22 August to allow enquiries to continue.

Officers from Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are now appealing for witnesses to the incident, or anyone who saw the victim walking with the aid of a stick in the moments leading up to the incident.

They would also like to hear from the drivers of a grey Citroen Berlingo van or similar, and a small red Vauxhall car, who may be able to provide important information to aid their investigation.
