Drivers are facing yet more queues on the M25 following a crash near the Dartford Tunnel.

Intermittent lane closures were put in place earlier today (May 27) after the collision - which has now been cleared.

Traffic was held-up in an attempt to deter drivers stopping inside the tunnel and traffic jams were made worse after a second crash took place in queuing traffic at junction two for Bexleyheath.

Congestion is stretching as far as junction four for Orpington.

This comes following a week of chaos for motorists on the 'highway to hell' including ten mile queues for drivers yesterday and the closure of the QEII bridge following a lorry crash on Monday.

Dartford MP Gareth Johnson has highlighted the "horrendous" traffic as a reason for the new Lower Thames Crossing to be built away from the town.

He said: "Like so many other people in Dartford, I was frequently stuck in the horrendous traffic this week.

"We have all had to endure an horrendous week of traffic problems which highlight the need for another crossing away from Dartford.

“Highways England needs to ensure it has contingency plans in place when there are difficulties with its roadworks.

"Last Monday they knew from the early hours that problems would occur as a result of over running roadworks yet no strategy was seemingly deployed to help tackle the inevitable congestion. This cannot be right."
