Expect 10-mile queues and long delays on approach to the Dartford Crossing this morning (May 26), due to an earlier accident and broken down vehicle.

Highways England are warning drivers to expect delays, having now reported problems in both directions on the M25 around Dartford and Essex.

The first incident was a smash between Swanscombe and Princes Road, Dartford, at 6am – which brought the motorway to a standstill for 20 minutes.

It is yet not known if anyone was injured in this accident, but drivers are currently queuing right across the QEII Bridge into Tillbury, Essex, near the junction for Lakeside shopping centre.

Meanwhile, a second incident – thought to be a break-down or minor crash – closed one of the tunnels at around 7am.

This has now been cleared and both tunnels re-opened, but there are still delays on the anti-clockwise road as a result.

Drivers are currently queuing for four miles, to the Swanley Interchange.
