One of Lewisham's main roads was submerged in water this morning after heavy downpours battered south-east London overnight.

Road signs and barriers were pictured floating down Loampit Vale, next to Lewisham station, in the early hours of this morning.

Loampit Vale has just reopened between Lewisham Gateway roundabout and Thurston Road after the clean-up operation began early this morning.

However there is currently no service from Lewisham on the DLR because of the flooding, and buses serving Loampit Vale are on diversion.

Last night TfL Traffic News posted a picture of the flooding on Twitter with the caption: "Scenes at Loampit Vale. Yep, underwater."

At around 2am they advised drivers the road was blocked by the floods in both directions and warned them not to attempt to drive through, adding "don't be that guy!"
