A young man is in hospital after being injured in a drive-by shooting in Lewisham.

The 22-year-old was at a house party in Algernon Road, near the Loampit Vale End, when he was shot outside.

He was standing outside with a group of people when a saloon car drove past.

As it reversed one of the passengers pulled out a gun and fired several shots into the group, police said.

The vehicle drove off along Algernon Road, heading towards Loampit Vale.

The man was rushed to hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg, where he remains in a stable condition.

Police said a female, aged 18, was also treated for minor injuries, and she has since been discharged from hospital.

A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said: "We sent a number of resources, including ambulance crews, an advanced paramedic and London's Air Ambulance, arriving within seven minutes.

"We treated a man for gunshot wounds and took him as a priority to hospital, escorted by a doctor from London's Air Ambulance."
