A young man was left in a critical condition after being stabbed in Lewisham on Saturday evening.

Police said the victim, aged in his 20s, was attacked in Molesworth Street - near the junction with Lewisham High Street.

Officers were called to the busy two-lane stretch of road at around 8.40pm on Saturday.

Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service rushed the stab victim to a south London hospital.

Today a spokesman for the Met Police said: "He is described as being in a critical but stable condition."

One lane of the A21/Molesworth Street, which was shut overnight by police, reopened by around 8am the following morning.

Detectives from the Lewisham CID are investigating, but no arrests have been made.
