Erith sports coach riding wave of success as 1,500 children join

Gurdip Thind, of Park Crescent, is part of the rising tide of the borough’s sports stars after starting his own fitness organisation 16 years ago.

The 32-year-old created GT Centre of Sport with £30 and seven children attending his sports classes - he now caters for more than 1,500 children a week.

Mr Thind said: “With God’s help we have done ok.

“I’m the director and I have done it by myself.

“No one in my family were really into business and I just didn’t really want to work for anyone.

“I had graduated from Greenwich university and I thought a good thing was to set up the Saturday school.

“My family helped me in the beginning and now I have a small school of fantastic coaches who work with me.

“From where we started I’m hopeful we will keep growing and growing the business, fingers crossed for more - I’m just excited.”

The Easter programme was a big success

Mayor of Bexley, Sybil Camsey, was on hand at the Belvedere Community Centre to present certificates and trophies to more than 60 children who completed one of Mr Thind’s sports activity programmes during the Easter Holidays.

Mr Thind said: "It was great to have the Mayor of Bexley visit us this month and support the children at their end of course presentation.

“The children have put in a fantastic effort and impressed us with all the sports they tried."

The team has expanded since the early days of the company

The dedicated team of coaches run courses to help children make friends, have fun and learn new skills along the way.

Everything from football, basketball, cricket, dancing and gymnastics is taught by GT Centre of Sport which runs classes all over Bexley - the current focus is on primary schools across the borough to help children get active.
