There have been reports of armed police pointing weapons at a flat on Croydon Road in Beckenham, near the recreation ground.

The Met Police confirmed armed officers were sent to the location as a precaution.

Met Police were called at 10.08am today (Friday, April 1) to an address in Croydon Road by a woman who alleged false imprisonment and assault.

She also alleged an occupant at the address had been storing a firearm at the premises.

A search is being carried out by officers but no firearm has yet been recovered.

There have been no arrests and Bromley police are currently making enquiries.

Simon Gibbs, 35, an IT contractor and proprietor of Libertarian Home who lives in the area, was on his way to Starbucks when he found the road closed.

He said: "On the road, I saw an armed officer with a weapon trained on the upstairs windows of a flat.

"Police appeared to be engaged in a search at the front door, coming in and out with boxed equipment - a forensic kit or device, I expect.

"A silver SUV was pulled across the road, as if to deliberately block it.

"I noticed the first car in the queue heading south was owned by a driving school.

"I did not see if a pupil was at the wheel, but that would have been an interesting first lesson."
