Hatton Garden heist mastermind Brian Reader has been jailed for six years and three months, by a judge at Woolwich Crown Court.

The 77-year-old Dartford resident appeared for sentencing today (March 21), nearly two weeks after five of his fellow raiders were banged up for 34 years.

The ailing crook was video linked from Belmarsh Prison, where he sat in a wheelchair, after suffering a stroke. He wore a burgundy T-shirt.

The hefty jail term came despite warnings from lawyer James Scobie QC that Reader, of Dartford Road, "may only have months to live".

However Reader was given sentence reductions of 30 per cent, after pleading guilty, and one year on account of his poor health.

Judge Kinch said he took into account the fact that Reader is "seriously unwell" and needs daily assistance with a number of routine tasks.

He said Reader has a range of medical problems which are "potentially very serious indeed", but added: "I'm satisfied that you were rightly described as one of the ringleaders and involved in regular meetings."

The judge pointed out that while Reader was not present on the second night of the heist, he was there the first night and during "at least one dry run".

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has now ordered the gang to return the loot, an estimated £14m in gold, jewellery and other goods.

Confiscation proceedings could mean Reader loses his home, as well as other possessions.

Chief Crown Prosecutor for London, Baljit Ubhey OBE, said: “It must not be forgotten that this burglary caused significant financial loss for many of the victims and for some had a devastating impact on their lives.”

Terri Robinson, 36, and Bren Walters, 44, were also sentenced today - after pleading guilty to concealing, converting or transferring criminal property.

The pair each got 18 month sentences, suspended for two years, and were ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.

Walters has also been given a three-month curfew and a 60-day activity requirement, normally training or education.

Earlier this month, ringleaders John "Kenny" Collins, 75, Danny Jones, 61, and Terry Perkins, 67, were each handed seven-year jail terms.

Meanwhile Carl Wood, 59, was jailed for six years and Bill Lincoln, 60, for seven.

Both men denied their involvement in the biggest burglary in British legal history, but were found guilty following a trial at Woolwich.

The ageing gang, with a combined age of 448, carried out the "sophisticated" and meticulously planned break-in over the Easter weekend last year.

Only Enfield plumber Hugh Doyle, 48, escaped a jail term.

He had a lesser role in the raid - having allowed the gang to stash part of their loot on his property.

Doyle was given a 21-month sentence, suspended for two years, and has since returned to work.
