A father has spoken of his rage after his son was the victim of an alleged hit-and-run in Welling.

Rick Rintoul, 54, of Northumberland Avenue, Welling, was shocked when a witness called him saying that his son Jack had been run over in Wickham Lane.

Jack, 20, is believed to have been hit while walking home from his girlfriend’s house at about 6pm on Monday (February 8).

He suffered minor injuries and was rushed to hospital for x-rays and MRI scans.

Mr Rintoul told News Shopper: “I could say a lot of things to the man or woman who hit my son and drove on but I don’t think you’d be able to print it. Just, why didn’t you stop?

“I was at home with my wife and I got the call - a woman who actually saw what had happened rang me – Jack must’ve given her my number.

“Fortunately, nothing major happened apart from a few cuts and bruises.

“We are extremely angry that whoever it is that hit him didn’t stop because the incident could’ve been a lot more serious.

“When the car hit him, he went flying through the air. You could even see the broken glass on the ground.”

Before being aided, Jack, who is a student at Greenwich Community College, managed to pick himself up from the road and take shelter at a bus stop.

Despite Mr Rintoul’s rage towards the driver, he was full of praise for the young woman who stopped and got out of her car to help his son.

The black cab taxi driver added: “I am trying to find out the woman’s address and get some flowers or chocolates for her.

“She looked quite young and her mum even came to the scene of the hit-and-run but the fact that she stopped and helped Jack was so incredibly kind.

“If she hadn’t stopped, it could’ve been a lot worse - she was a heroine for what she did.

“Nowadays, people look at something and want to get away as soon as possible. She did everything she could and did the right thing.”

Jack was discharged from hospital on the same night and suffered cuts and bruises to his body.

Mr Rintoul claims the police have been contacted.
