Frustrated commuters complained that "minor frost" caused lengthy delays across a number of Southeastern routes this morning.

Thousands of passengers travelling between Kent and London were affected by the disruption.

Southeastern railway said "icy conditions" were to blame, with delays of up to an hour to trains between Swanley and Faversham.

Meanwhile, passengers were told the Bexleyheath line was closed for emergency engineering work at Kidbrooke, disrupting many services into London.

Many commuters complained that trains were not running due to the weather despite bright sunshine and clear skies.

Nick Rogers wrote on Twitter: "Southeastern trains you couldn't run a bath. Mild winters morning and poor conditions halt entire service?!"

Haifa Ungapen said: "Southeastern overwhelmed by some minor frost. How long have they been operating in England? High time they were stripped of the franchise."

James Willby added: "The first frost and *every* Southeastern train breaks down. Can everyone sign the petition. We need 100,000 to force government to act."

Laura Reynolds tweeted: "When you get to the station at 7.36 and the 5.40 train hasn't even arrived yet."

A Southeastern spokesman said: "The Kent main line has been affected by delays on all routes up to 60 minutes due to icy conditions."
