The Dartford Crossing has been closed in one direction, due to strong winds from Storm Imogen, and is likely to remain closed throughout this afternoon.
The QE2 bridge is shut between West Thurrock and the Swanscombe Junction 1A - and six-mile queues have built in the area.
Highways England have now warned that the bridge will remain closed until the wind speeds drop.
The bridge was closed at 10.30am - and traffic is now being diverted through one of the Dartford tunnels.
There are two lanes closed on the Dartford side of the bridge, and congestion to the Swanley Interchange as a result.
The right-hand tunnel, the higher of the two, is closed to divert QE2 Bridge traffic.
Vehicles up to 4.8 metres high can still use the left-hand Dartford Tunnel.
Some lorries and other tall vehicles are being diverted.
I feel so sorry for anyone trying to cross the dartford bridge

The tunnel is expected to remain closed until this evening.
