A cyclist has described the moment he was sent somersaulting through the air after he was allegedly forced off his bike by a driver in Bromley.

Ken Negus, 58, has been left unable to work or ride his bike following the crash, which left him with bruised ribs and hips, lacerations to the lower legs, concussion, a bloody eye and a broken collarbone.

The married father-of-one was cycling under the Homesdale Road railway bridge at 11.43am on Saturday, December 5 last year, when a driver in a blue Citroen DS3 allegedly overtook him so closely that the front wheel of his bike hit the kerb and he went flying over the handle bars.

Mr Negus, of Widmore Lodge Road, was travelling back from a ride with his biking club, The Bigfoot Cycle Club, in Hayes.

He told News Shopper: “I was minutes from being home, I had gone past the security offices [1st Ace Security Ltd]. Two cars overtook me there.

“At the bridge, it really narrows up. All I remember is this blacked out window right up close to me – a metallic blue Citroen right up against me.

“I banged on the window and shouted, ‘Give me some space.’

“My front wheel hit the kerb and sent me somersaulting over. I ended up hitting the low wall right outside Tesco.

“My head was facing the direction I came from. I was forced off the road with nowhere to go.

“I hit the wall on my right side. The helmet took the bashing. My ribs were really bruised. My bum really took a hit.”

The driver of the blue car drove away without stopping, leaving a heavily concussed Mr Negus lying on the ground.

A pedestrian rushed to help him and called the police and an ambulance.

Paramedics took Mr Negus to the Princess Royal University Hospital in Farnborough for treatment to his injuries and he was discharged later that evening.

Once he became well enough, he began scouring the area for CCTV footage to try to help the police track down the motorist, who he believes forced him off the road.

Mr Negus, a private driver, has managed to find CCTV images of the moments leading up to the crash but has been unable to make out the Citroen’s registration.

He added: “I am hoping to find someone with specialist equipment who could enhance the CCTV footage sufficiently to be able to read the registration number to give to the police, or a witness who may have seen something and taken down the number plate."

“The male cyclist was taken to a south London hospital for treatment to his injuries.

“The driver failed to stop at the scene.

“There have been no arrests.”
