Motorists faced travel chaos after traffic lights were knocked down by a vehicle in Deptford.

All the traffic signals were out in Deptford Broadway and the junction with Brook Mill Road and Deptford Church street following the smash today (January 28).

Motorists were unable to turn right at the junction until power was restored at around 8.30am.

At 7.05am, Transport for London warned motorists the traffic lights had been struck and were lying in the road.

Transport for London Traffic News tweeted: "A2209 Deptford Church Street/Deptford Bridge SE8. Traffic lights have been hit and are lying in the carriageway. Approach with care."

Met Police were on scene directing traffic.

Twitter user Justin Pawley tweeted: "Traffic lights down at Deptford Bridge. Prepare for rush hour mayhem. Police on scene."
