A "hazardous substance" has been discovered at Bromley College, police said.
Parts of the Rookery Lane campus were sealed off due to the chemical alert today (January 27).
Police were called to the college at around 12.50pm following reports of a hazardous substance found on the premises.
A Met Police spokesman confirmed that officers were attending and the substance was being assessed.
Bromley officers tweeted at around 1.15pm: "Bromley College is currently being evacuated... please stand by for more information."
But a Bromley College spokeswoman said students and staff were not evacuated.
In a statement, she said: "We can confirm that during a routine health and safety check we discovered a very small amount of a potentially hazardous substance in the science laboratory store.
"We notified the relevant agencies who have safely removed the substance.
"Students have been informed and re-assured that the incident is now dealt with."
The further and higher education college has more than 10,000 students on its books and around 650 staff.
