Two youths armed with kitchen knives stabbed a teenager to death and slashed his friend across the face in a "senseless act" of violence in Brockley, a court heard.

The boys, aged 15 and 16, cornered and fatally stabbed 17-year-old Shaquan Fearon, of Crofton Park, outside Spalding House in Turnham Road on the evening of September 3, last year, the Old Bailey was told.

His friend Junior Inneh, 18, was knifed in the face as he tried to protect him.

In a telephone conversation after the attack, one of the defendants said: “Well them boys, they f***** with the wrong n******,” the court heard.

Prosecutor Brian O'Neill QC said: "This was a senseless act of of knife violence by two youths jointly armed with lethal weapons who carried out a joint and murderous attack on two other teenagers killing one and seriously injuring the other.

"The only aggressors that September evening were the two youths in the dock; each of whom knew exactly what he and his accomplice were doing when they attacked Shaquan and Junior."

He told the court Shaquan and Junior were making their way to a youth club on the Turnham Estate at about 6pm when they were confronted by the defendants, who are both from Brockley and cannot be named due to their age.

The younger boy allegedly asked Shaquan where he was going and was told it was none of his business, to which he replied: "Let's talk."

He grabbed Shaquan by the body warmer he was wearing, who responded by hitting him in the face to break his grip.

The older boy pulled two black-handled kitchen knives from his bag and the pair began to attack Shaquan and Junior, who both tried to escape.

Mr O'Neill QC told the jury: "Both victims tried to flee, and were chased by the defendants.

"Their attack was witnessed by a number of residents and was captured on CCTV."

While the motive was "unclear", the sequence of events had been pieced together, he said.

The defendants cornered Shaquan outside Spalding House and began to attack him with their knives, the court heard.

The jury was told Junior ran to try to help his friend but one of the boys swung at him with his knife, slicing him across the face.

The defendants ran off, leaving Shaquan collapsed and bleeding to death on the ground before a witness, Alvin Lothian, dialled 999, the court heard.

Mr O’Neill said: “They left behind them a knife with a bent blade and a broken handle."

Shaquan, who was stabbed in the femoral vein of his right thigh, suffered a cardiac arrest in the ambulance on the way to King’s College Hospital.

He died about two hours after the attack at 8.09pm.

A jury of seven men and five women have been sworn in for the trial, which is set to last four weeks.

Both defendants deny charges of murder, attempted murder and wounding with intent.

The trial continues.
