A budding musician from Beckenham is one of eight youngsters singing their way to a dream prize in a star-studded CBBC series.

Lola Young is starring alongside her mother Imogen Moore De Pulido in CBBC's Got What It Takes? - a musical bootcamp set to test a group of talented performers and their mums.

X Factor star Lauren Platt guides the group through each episode, where the young hopefuls undertake a series of challenges for the ultimate prize of performing at this year's BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend.

Filmed last August over three weeks, Ms Moore De Pulido, 42, said it was a surreal experience and a challenge for both the youngsters and their mums.

She told News Shopper: "The kids just had such an amazing experience.

"The kids really did feel like they got a taste of what it would be like working in the music industry."

Every week the kids and their mums each undertake a new challenge to win one of three slots to perform in the sing-off at the end of the episode.

And who better to choose the winner of each sing off, than their own mums.

Ms Moore De Pulido said guitar and piano-playing Lola most enjoys playing folk and acoustic style songs, many of which she writes herself.

But taking part in the series has forced her out of her comfort zone.

She said: "The thing for her is she finds it easier to sing her own stuff, she can relate to her lyrics a lot more."

When the show began airing just over three weeks ago, the family of five sat down to watch it together.

Ms Moore De Pulido added: "The first episode was really funny, we were really laughing when we saw ourselves.

"It’s just so fun. It’s lovely to think that people are really enjoying the program."

After a raft of positive feedback from friends and viewers, Lola is planning to return to her primary school in Beckenham for a special performance.

As well as appearing on TV, Lola is also celebrating her recent success in the Open Mic UK competition, where she was crowned the winner of the under-16 category.

Lola went up against 29 other performers during the grand final in Birmingham on Saturday (CORR) and also took home the prize for best original song.
