A Bexleyheath woman has spoken out about a “ruined” New Year’s Eve that saw her and four friends, including a pensioner, abandon a £110 party to watch TV at home - because they couldn’t get a seat.

Christine Flack, 58, of Parkside Avenue, was left disappointed after her plans to celebrate at the Barnehurst Golf Course in Mayplace Road East failed due to a lack of seating.

Mrs Flack told News Shopper that her group, including husband Richard, 69, their two friends aged 61 and 62 and their elderly friend Celia, 73, were expected to stand for four hours in anticipation of the countdown - something she claims they wouldn’t have been able to physically cope with.

Mrs Flack said: "We’re no spring chickens - we weren’t expecting a table but they could have given us chairs.

"It’s not the money - you’re upset because your New Year’s evening was ruined.

"It was embarrassing for me too because of the way it turned out - my friends went home and we brought Celia back with us and watched the telly.

"We’ll never go back again - it was awful."

Mrs Flack also complained that the venue was packed and that there was virtually no room in which to move around in.

The group arrived at the celebrations at around 7.45pm but left at 8.30pm after the realisation that they were not going to be seated.

They abandoned their plans and watched the NYE celebrations on TV from home.

"We take it in good faith that Mrs Flack didn’t understand that at the time of booking and have since refunded their money in full.

"We are sorry she was inconvenienced - we are going to change the way we market the event next year.

"A lot of people contacted us saying they had a good time [and] I hope that Christine will want to come next year."
