Pressure is mounting on the government to extend Crossrail (C2G) from Abbey Wood to Gravesend, as originally planned.
Crossrail 1 was originally supposed to run to Hoo Junction, near Higham and the Shorne Marshes.
The Ebbsfleet Development Corporation (EDC), Boris Johnson, Thames Gateway Kent Partnershipm and Bexley, Dartford, Gravesham and Kent County councils joined forces to put forward a case on Friday (January 8) for the high speed rail line's extension into Kent.
TODAY'S TOP STORIES:
They want renewed financial commitment from the government and George Osbourne's new infrastructure advisory body the National Infrastructure Commission (NIC), chaired by Lord Adonis.
EDC chairman Michael Cassidy said: "C2G is important to delivering growth in the Thames Gateway Corridor.
"The Thameside areas of Bexley and north Kent will deliver significant economic growth and more than 55,000 much needed new homes.
"Investment in major infrastructure and public transport is key in unlocking this potential."
Bexley Council leader Teresa O’Neill added: "The existing North Kent Line will not support the growth we aspire to deliver.
"More capacity is needed beyond what can be provided within the Southeastern train franchise or by Transport for London taking over the Kent Metro services.

"Growth on this scale requires better connectivity to meet future demand.
"Bexley and North Kent are uniquely located between the capital, channel ports and less than an hour from major airports.
"Extending Crossrail 1 presents a real opportunity and we look forward to discussing this further with the Commission."
The group will submit a summary of their findings in around a month's time (February 13).
