Police are appealing for information after an alleged arson and burglary in Greenhithe, in which a cat was killed.

The fire broke out inside the house in St James Lane on Sunday, November 22 – sometime between 6.30pm and 9.20pm.

Jewellery and other items were reportedly stolen by thieves.

A second cat was injured in the blaze, which destroyed a third of the ground floor.

A 21-year-old man, from Dartford, was arrested the next day in connection with the incident.

He was released without charge on Friday (January 8).

Detective Constable Robin Hemsley, investigating officer at Kent Police, said: "We appreciate that this incident happened some time ago but it is very much an ongoing investigation.

"We are investigating a report that a property was broken into while the owners were out, set alight and a number of items, including jewellery, were stolen.

"The house was significantly damaged and a cat died as a result of the fire.

"I would ask anyone with information about this incident, however irrelevant you think it might be, to contact police as your information may be able to assist with our ongoing enquiries."
