A woman in her 70s has died after a car smashed through a window of a Costa Coffee shop in Westerham, while four others have been seriously injured.

The incident, which involved a black Audi driven by an 88-year-old man, happened in The Green at about 10.30am today (December 24).

All emergency services - including an air ambulance - were called to the scene to help the victims.

Two patients, a man and a woman, have been taken by ambulance to St George's Hospital in London, both with serious injuries.

A man and a woman have been taken by ambulance to the Princess Royal Hospital in Farnborough – again both with serious injuries.

A woman with minor injuries was also taken by ambulance to Pembury Hospital.

A Kent Police spokesman said: “We were called at 10.32am to reports of a car colliding with a property in The Green, Westerham.

South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service are also at the scene and there are several reported injuries.”

Peter Thornley, who pictured the crash, said: "Someone has just driven a car straight into costa coffee in Westerham. Madness."

The road is currently closed.
