Students have visited the construction site of the new Crossrail station in Abbey Wood for a careers session.
Learners, aged 16 to 18, studying science, technology, engineering and maths at Shooters Hill College and Royal Greenwich University Technical College spent three days with the Network Rail Abbey Wood project team.
The course, part of Construction Youth Trust’s Budding Brunels programme, included a visit to see the building work first hand, speed networking sessions with Network Rail team members and presentation practice.
Students took part in mock interviews to help to determine which of them will be offered week-long work experience placements with the project.
Sue Hardy, the project's workplace co-ordination manager, said: "The workshops are a great opportunity for students considering a career in construction or engineering.
"The sessions give them a chance to experience first-hand some of the challenges and opportunities the industry faces every day."
The Abbey Wood station, built over two new dedicated Crossrail tracks and the tracks used by north Kent services, is expected to open at the end of 2017.
