A fire at a pizza takeaway shop in Lewisham raged for almost three hours as 72 firefighters battled to extinguish the flames.

Staff and customers at the Lee High Road Pizza Go Go restaurant and four adults and three children in the flat above, escaped from the building when a fire broke out on the ground floor at around 7.20pm on Saturday (November 28).

London Fire Brigade sent ten fire engines and 72 firefighters and officers to tackle the blaze, which damaged around a quarter of the ground floor.

No-one was injured in the fire, which crews were able to prevent from spreading to adjacent buildings.

Fire engines from Greenwich, Dockhead, New Cross, Deptford, Peckham and Lee Green stations attended.

The cause of the fire, which was brought under control at around 10.10pm, is under investigation.
