POLICE UPDATE
British Transport Police today appealed for information following an incident of racist abuse on a train travelling between London Bridge and Tunbridge Wells.
A man has voluntarily come forward and will be interviewed in due course.
Police were hunting for a man who boarded a train at Orpington station and allegedly hurled “a tirade of foul-mouthed racist abuse” at another passenger.
A 37-year-old woman said she was racially abused by a man on the 9.37pm London Bridge to Tunbridge Wells train on Saturday, July 25.
Police believe the man boarded the train at Orpington station before striking up a conversation with the woman and launching into a racist outburst.
Officers released a CCTV image of a man they wished to speak to in connection with the investigation.
PC Craig Twyman said: “The victim was subjected to a tirade of foul-mouthed racist abuse after the man engaged her in conversation.
“She felt intimidated and threatened by him and reported the incident on leaving the train."
