Daleks and Stormtroopers took to the streets for Bromley’s first ever sci-fi convention.

Hundreds of people turned out on Saturday (November 14) to enjoy the borough’s answer to comicon, held at the Civic Centre.

Dr Who, Daleks, Cybermen Tardis, Star Wars, Star Trek, a HG Wells Time Machine and a host of iconic replicas wowed the crowds.

A 15ft Thunderbird 3 rocket was also on display, handmade by memory musuem curator Michael Maxted and his father.

No sci-fi event would be complete without stars of the genre, and Dr Who villain Colony Sarff, aka Jami Reid-Quarrell along with fellow actor Paul Warren were on hand to speak to fans.

In the evening the Lewisham Concert Band played theme tunes to cult classics including Batman, Back to the Future and War of the Worlds.

MORE TOP STORIES The day was hosted by Bromley mayor Coun Kim Botting, and nearly £2,200 was raised for her two chosen charities, UK Connect and The National Brain Appeal.

She told News Shopper: “It was fantastic better than I ever thought possible.

“I didn't know we had so many Sci-fi fans in Bromley Borough.”

Nicky Barclay, from Talking Box who helped organise the event, said the day had been a resounding success.

He added: “An amazing show was highlighted by R2D2s from star wars and Daleks and costumed characters roaming the event and chatting to the public.

“Actors and authors signed autographs and youngsters were spellbound by giant props The Tardis, Thunderbirds, a Stargate and the HG Wells exhibition that included a full size Time Machine.”
