After two dog walkers photographed a boa constrictor in Danson Park, Bexleyheath last week, the RSPCA confirmed that the snake has been rescued.

News Shopper:
The snake was photographed by two people walking their chihuahuas  (c.) Debbie and Kevin Liddy

Inspectors were called to assist rangers last Friday (November 6) after confining it in a bin until help arrived.

RSPCA inspector Anthony Pulfer said: “It was lucky this poor Boa constrictor was found because it is far too cold for him to be outside.

TOP STORIES: “Although this is a large animal and may look hardy, snakes are completely dependent on their owners.

“There aren’t many houses in the area so we are concerned that he may have been dumped.

“If this is the case this is irresponsible as these can be dangerous animals.”

The good news for the six-foot boa is that other than being very cold, it appeared to be in great health.

However the RSPCA believes that had the snake been left outside any longer, it would have certainly died.

Mr Pulfer added: “Sadly we are finding more and more reptiles are coming in to our care and the RSPCA is experiencing widespread neglect of exotic animals.

“For many people an exotic animal represents too much of a commitment which is manifested in the growing number of exotic animals being abandoned and handed to shelters around the country.

News Shopper: The boa has now been transferred to the RSPCA reptile rescue centre and is thought to be 6 foot long
