DJ Neil Fox has been cleared of forcibly kissing a girl at a 1991 motor show in Bromley, as his trial for numerous sex offences got underway today.

However a second charge, alleging that on July 6 1991, at a motor show in Norman Park, Fox forced his hand up a 14-year-old girl's skirt and touched her bottom while giving her a kiss, remains.

Westminster Magistrates' Court heard today the 54-year-old exploited his fame to sexually abuse fans, including three girls aged under 16 between 1988 and 1996.

One of the complainants says she was 15 when Fox took her to an underground car park at Capital Radio in Euston in July 1988, and made her perform a sex act on him while he put his hand in her underwear.

Other girls allege that, while at public events, the radio presenter kissed them, forcing his tongue into their mouths.

Another four allegations of indecent assault relate to females aged over 16.

Prosecutor John Price QC told Westminster Magistrates' Court that Fox was a well-known personality, known either as "Foxy" or "Dr Fox".

He said: "The prosecution alleges in this case that he has exploited the privilege conferred upon him by him fame to inflict his sexual actions upon women without regard either for their wishes or their age."

Mr Price added: "He also inflicted himself upon adolescent girls - in other words, children."

In total, Fox, from Fulham, south-west London, faces eight counts of indecent assault and two of sexual assault, all said to have taken place between 1988 and 2014.

He was first arrested in September last year, then again in December and March.

He rose to fame presenting the chart show on Capital Radio, and was a judge on Pop Idol between 2001 and 2003 alongside Simon Cowell, Pete Waterman and Nicki Chapman.

Before today's trial began, the prosecution announced it would not be pursuing five counts of indecent assault that Fox had been charged with - one of which allegedly took place at a Bromley motor show and another four alleged indecent assaults on three girls in Euston in the 1980s.
