One of Britain’s most elusive creatures - the albino squirrel - has been spotted scampering around the playground at a Catford school.
Students and staff at Sedgehill School in Sedgehill Road caught a rare glimpse of the pure white squirrel scurrying about in the grounds on Tuesday (October 21).
Pupils have named their new furry friend Snowflake hoping a return visit from the squirrel will bring them a white Christmas.
An estimated 2.5m grey squirrels live in the UK with around one in every 100,000 born without any colour pigment in the UK.
The school’s catering manager Gary Williams said: “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, we get a lot of wildlife in the green areas of Sedgehill School but this was absolutely a first.”
The albino squirrel named Snowflake was caught on camera
Year 13 student Alayha Brown said: “The albino squirrel was so beautiful it looked like it had just come out of a fairy tale.”
