Young and old alike took to the streets of Petts Wood for a 10k race despite not having any running water.

On Sunday (October 12) the ninth annual race took place around Jubilee Park, Hawkwood and Petts Wood.

Despite not having any running water due to a burst water main the event, organised by the Petts Wood Runner race committee, they had record breaking entrants.

A total of with 750 runners entered and the world’s strongest couple, Lisa and Chris Pitman, opened the event.

MORE TOP STORIES The couple hold the Guinness World Records for fastest time to break 1000 roof tiles, and Mrs Pitman also holds the record for most roof tiles broken in one minute.

The race was won by Greg Nicholas with a time of 36 minutes 44 seconds, while Carole Penlington retained the ladies title with 40 minutes 25 seconds.

Organiser Stephen Robson said: “The race remains very much a community event with prizes for the fastest local residents.

“Petts Wood Runners welcome runners of all standards and provides regular beginner groups for anyone wanting to take up running.”

The race donated some of the profits to charity.
