A dangerous junction in Beckenham - the site of a fatal collision earlier this year - has closed for a traffic calming trial.

The experimental closure by Bromley Council has shut the T-junction where Lawn Road becomes Copers Cope Road for at least six months.

Copers Cope ward councillor Michael Tickner said the council is looking into road safety improvements after a number of collisions.

In May Ernest Miller, known as Della, died after his motorbike collided with a car at the junction with Bridge Road.

The 26-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

A petition set up by Mr Miller’s friend, Cameron Gordon, calling for measures such as speed humps or traffic lights received more than 1,200 signatures in under 24 hours.

Coun Tickner said the road closure will allow the council to investigate installing a mini-roundabout.

He said: "As ward councillors, we will be monitoring this experimental closure very carefully to see what the results are, not just in terms of road safety but also for local residents and motorists."
