A man was hospitalised and taken to a major trauma centre in a "critical condition" after being hit by a train in Deptford yesterday (October 4).

Deptford Bridge station was closed after the 2.50pm incident - and the DLR was partially suspended.

The man, thought to be in his fourties, was injured and trapped underneath the train after being hit. He remains in a critical condition.

One witness tweeted that it was "utter chaos", with at least a dozen emergency service vehicles on the scene.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "Our officers were called to Deptford Bridge rail station to reports of a man hit by a train.

"Officers attended the scene alongside colleagues from the Metropolitan Police Service and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service.

"The man was treated at the scene and later taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious."

A London Ambulance Service spokesman added: "We were called at 2.50pm to reports of a person under a train at Deptford Bridge DLR station.

"We sent a number of resources to the scene including the hazardous area response team (HART) and a medical team from London's Air Ambulance.

"We treated a man, who was taken to Kings College Hospital, a major trauma centre, as a priority escorted by the doctor from London's Air Ambulance."

Witness Adele Prince saw paramedics rushing inside.

She told News Shopper: "Numerous emergency vehicles at Deptford DLR, closed off, air ambulance attempting to land, medics running to DLR station.

"I didn't wait around beyond this point."

Services were suspended from Lewisham to Island Gardens, whilst earlier they were blocked from Canary Wharf.

Services from Greenwich were also affected.

Transport for London (TfL) warned of "severe delays" from Bank, and said there was no estimate for how long disruption would last. The station remained closed for several hours.
