A Sidcup plasterer says he has his son's toddler tantrum to thank for winning an Aston Martin.

Gary Gibbs, 40, was about to jet off to Menorca with his wife Lesley when little Thomas started acting up in Boots at Gatwick airport.

Mr Gibbs took his three-year-old boy to the Best of the Best (BOTB) supercar stand to distract him.

He entered the prize draw, but walked away thinking he would never win.

However, as Mr Gibbs worked on a house in Will Crooks Gardens, Eltham, yesterday (September 29) – he was surprised with the keys to a V8 Vantage worth £85,000, and a further £10,000 in cash.

Mr Gibbs told News Shopper: "I was lost for words - you never think it's going to happen to you.

"It's an out of body experience, elation.

"It's the best £60 I ever spent.

"I like cars, but I was trying to distract my little'un because he was having a meltdown in Boots.

"I was a bit cross with myself for entering, but not now.

"I'm really shocked. All of a sudden you are the owner of an Aston Martin."

Mr Gibbs was given the offer to accept the car, which is insured by BOTB for the first year, or ask for a cash alternative prize.

He said: "I am going to take the car - I will never get the chance to own one again.

"It's free motoring for a year.

"I might enjoy it for a year, and then sell it."

Mr Gibbs can now drive off in his dream car

Mr Gibbs added: "It was really weird because I was looking out of the window and I saw an Aston go past and I thought 'wow, that’s a nice motor'.

"The next thing I know there’s a knock at the door asking me to come outside.

"It's completely unbelievable. I'm pinching myself. It's a dream come true."

The dad-of-one could not believe his luck, saying: "There are people who enter every week.

"It's the first time I have ever entered it and I won.

"It was just an incredibly lucky day.

News Shopper:

"I turned 40 this year, so it's like a belated birthday present.

"My wife was in shock. She's over the moon.

"She had to try and keep the surprise - I knew there was something going on because she looked a bit stressed.

"I don't think she slept Monday night. She did well to keep the secret."
